He turned around. looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys."

Because, as you can see he was greatly hurt by being called a baldy and two bears mauling 42 of the boys was an equal and fair treatment in the eyes of his Lord. Or perhaps he just had two really well trained attack bears he trained to attack when he uttered his curse.
That's why the bible is un-bear-able!
