In many places many incredible things are waiting to be not only known but discovered. with today's technologies it is incredible what can be discovered by looking where it appears to be nothing. In no place is this truer I think than space if we track a location of what appears to be darkness on a long exposure we will find countless stars. I know this because NASA did this with an area of space believed to be the darkest part of the sky and found a ridiculous amount of galaxies in that spot.
If you go into micro research it is also incredible what can't be seen with the naked eye. There are also tons of sound and light frequencies out there we can pick up on with out limited senses. As we progress we will continue to discover more newer technologies that will alter what can be discovered more and more as time goes on.
All this said I think this statement by Carl Sagan could be the understatement of the century Not to put Carl Sagan down and the guy probably had his reasons for saying it exactly how he did but I think it should have been stated as follows:
Everywhere you can imagine, incredible things are waiting to be discovered.
