@NewSkeptic: Text them back and tell them.... "Stop Watching Porn, it's Fucking Easter!"

I think I might email back to my brother with something like "I think it's very insensitive of you to boast like that"

PS Egyptian religion lasted over 3000 years. How much longer will Christianity be with us and what idiocy will the unthinking classes replace it with? I'd bet on a personality cult. They could call him Uncle Sam. OR whereI live 'Aunty Adelaide' which sounds a bit more benign.

@Cranky: If Star Wars fans get their way it will be "The Force!" Certainly some sort of deistic creative thing for which there will be no facts or evidence.

Dang, Cog, don't you know anything? When dealing with The Force, "There is no try. There is only do.... Or do not." Humph! A lousy Jedi you would make.

Yair It gives me no comfort to realise the most outrageous humbug will continue long after my ashes have been bunged on the roses.

OT; In Australia, in the 2001 census, more than 70,000 people put 'Jedi' as their religion. I think that may have been partly a typical Australian reaction to the impudence of the government in asking such a question.

Possibly due to a campaign by the Australian Atheist Foundation, that figure dropped in subsequent census and the number giving "no religion" increased.

I think there may be a core of true Jedi believers.Such folks might see the utterances of Yoda as 'deep'.

I'm not sure this is good advice in the age of ass-wipe hoarding.

I'm not interested in the

I'm not interested in the Catholic ideology behind Easter. I'm well aware that it's an ancient celebration of spring, renamed to suit the dominant religion.

But I like it. It's a celebration of Hope, as the seasons change from cold and sterile to warm and fecund. Call it whatever you want.

@Story of the Easter Monkey

@Story of the Easter Monkey
Easter is the celebration of little chocolate balls. The exact nature of the Easter Monkey is clouded in mystery. One theory is that the symbol of the monkey, known for its energetic breeding and prowess at flinging little black balls was the first symbol of Easter.

But how did the Easter Monkey begin delivering eggs on American shores? According to History.com, the theory with the most evidence is that the furry-eared bearer of chocolate balls came to earth at the bequest of the blue universe creating bunnies. He immediately began roaming the world and building little nests where he would lay his eggs and deposit little black chocolate balls. Children would find these nests and suck on the balls. Thus the Holy tradition of sucking on balls was born and Easter became an official holiday of the church.
