A woman has been accused of stabbing her date in a Nevada hotel room on March 5. According to court documents submitted by the police, the 21-year old Nika Nikoubin wanted revenge for an Iranian leader killed by an American drone strike in 2020.
Nikoubin met the victim online through the Plenty of Fish online dating website.
According to Henderson police, the two decided to meet at Sunset Station Hotel and Casino in Henderson, Nevada, on Saturday.
The two eventually started having sex when Nikoubin blindfolded the victim. She turned off the lights after putting on the blindfold. A few minutes later, the victim “felt a pain on the side of his neck,” police said.
The victim was able to push Nikoubin off and ran outside to call 911. Nikoubin also ran out of the room and confessed to a hotel employee that she stabbed a man.
According to the arrest report, Nikoubin told an investigator that she did “for revenge against U.S. troops for killing Qasem Soleimani in 2020.” She also told the investigator that the song “Grave Digger” motivated her to carry out the attack.
In January 2020, the U.S. carried out drone attacks targeting Soleimani, a top Iranian military officer. He was killed when a drone strike hit his convoy as it left Baghdad airport.
Soleimani was the head of the leading Quds force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. Soleimani and his forces are responsible for Iran’s foreign operations. He also gained a reputation as a top advisor of Shiite paramilitary forces, which fought against the Islamic State (IS) in 2014.
A United Nations human rights investigator called the attack on Soleimani an “unlawful” killing. Agnes Callamard, U.N. special rapporteur on the extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary killings, accused the U.S. of failing to provide sufficient evidence for the attack.
According to Henderson police, Nikoubin will be charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, and burglary. She’s scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 24.
