America’s holiday season traditionally opens in late November and runs to early January. It is a great time to be with family, buy presents, enjoy the little things, such as decorating a Christmas tree -- but there is also the other side of the coin. First of all the Christmas tree is a secular symbol, according to Bill O’Reilly, the host of the political commentary program The O'Reilly Factor. Is it really, O’Reilly?
The whole year has been very colorful and in just the last few weeks, the Heritage Foundation called an Agriculture Department initiative to raise revenue for tree farmers a “Christmas Tree Tax”; Fox News said that standard federal safety warnings were proof that the government wants to “tell you how to decorate your Christmas tree”; and conservative activists criticized Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, an Independent, for daring to consecrate a “holiday tree” — rather than a “Christmas Tree” — at the statehouse.
Billboards that are placed during the holiday season, as – “Yes, Virginia… There is no God” from the Freedom From Religion Foundation or “Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to skip church! I’m too old for fairy tales” from the American Atheist National Convention – face fierce condemnation.
Another complaint, also from Fox News Channel -- which has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party -- is due to the certain companies which have ordered their employees not to say the word Christmas.
And that’s why there is a war, Bill O’Reilly said. Many retailers are still including Christmas in their winter festivities — they are just including other celebrations as well.
“It is clear that there is a war between traditional Americans and secular progressives,” O’Reilly continued. He named five things that secular progressives want and he is strictly against it:
- Number one, cradle to grave entitlements.
- Number two, income equality. That means that Americans would be guaranteed a certain lifestyle courtesy of other Americans.
- Number three, unfettered abortion. The far left wants no restrictions on destroying a fetus. None.
- Number four, gay marriages. Here the S-P’s have won. They have turned public opinion around on this issue.
- Finally, number five, legalized narcotics.
Christianity is the most prevalent religion in America and somehow it seems everybody is trying to cause the biggest harm precisely to the Christians. Instead of preventing religious bigotry and hate, they are trying to create even more trouble. Holidays, Christmas and all other festive occasions should be the part of the year that people look forward and all that wars. Attacks and other craven tactics that we see in the media, somehow spoil the delight. In practice, those who are truly comfortable in their faith are often the most humble about their orthodoxies because they have nothing to prove. By contrast, those who are the most insecure in their beliefs can sometimes be the most aggressive about their dogma.
