Sikh Sacrilege; Man Beaten to Death for Attempting to Steal Holy Sword

On Saturday, December 18, 2021, a man was beaten to death after attempting to steal a ceremonial sword that is kept next to the Guru Granth Sahib, Sikhism's holy book, during prayers inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. The event was caught on camera in the video below.

Mubarak Bala, Imprisoned Nigerian Atheist, Faces New Charges

On August 3, the High Court of Kano State in Nigeria formally charged Mubarak Bala, an atheist and president of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, for causing a public disturbance. The High Court's charges, which come as a highly delayed action, revolves around Bala's Facebook posts which spanned over 2020. The public disturbance charges fall under Kano State Penal Code's sections 114 and 210. 

Surge of Non-Believers In Northern Ireland!

The percentage of people not identifying under any religion has been growing in Northern Ireland. According to the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey 2020, on question "Do you regard yourself as belonging to any particular religion?", about 27% of the population identified as non-religious, which is a 7% increase compared to the percentage of non-religious people in 2019.

 

Televangelist Says Gay People Need Warning Labels on Their Foreheads

On May 3, 2021, the right-wing pastor and televangelist Andrew Wommack made horrible anti-LGBTQ+ comments on his podcast alongside his guest, anti-LGBTQ+ religious-right activist, Janet Porter. He said that gay people should wear labels on their foreheads as a warning sign because their sexuality could be "hazardous" to health.

 

Atheists Condemn Philippines's biased "Magna Carta of Religious Freedom"

On March 24th, 2021, House Bill No: 6538, otherwise known as "The Magna Carta of Religious Freedom", was approved by Philippine lawmakers. Authored by Deputy Speaker Eddie Villanueva and Representative Domingo Rivera, this bill was first approved on December 2nd, 2020, subject to amendments.
