Suzanne Atanus, 55-year-old Republican House Candidate, who earlier said autism and dementia are results of god’s anger over gay marriage and abortion, won her primary for a seat in the House of Representatives. She will face off against incumbent Democrat representative Jan Schakowsky November this year.
Voters in the Republican primary had two very different candidates to choose from in the 9th Congressional District, as David Earl Williams III and Atanus vied for the right to face Schakowsky in the coming fall.
“I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first,” said Atanus during an earlier speech where she explained that God controls the weather and he has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as punishment for gay rights and legalized abortions.
Party leaders in the state had urged her to drop out of the race, but she didn’t comply. She went ahead came out with a narrow victory over her opponent David Earl Williams III.
