Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, a religious group in Pakistan, recently stressed the need to make the Blasphemy Act more effective and complained that no blasphemer in the country has so far been convicted under Section 295 C of the Pakistan Penal Code. Speaking at a workers’ convention in Vanike Tarar, Allama Ziaullah Qadri said, like terrorists, blasphemers who hurt the sentiments of Muslims should be hanged as well.

He said the arrests of Sufia and Ulema of the peaceful Barelvi sect without any cause was equivalent to conspiracy against the Zarb-e-Azab Operation that was launched in June 2014 for quashing terrorist activities in North Waziristan.

Condemning the removal of loudspeakers from mosques and labeling the decision to do so as un-Islamic and unconstitutional, Qadri called upon Muslims to show more unity and glorify Islam. Accusing Pakistan’s Shia community of fueling prevailing sectarian problems, Jamaat Ahle Sunnat urged the government and army to extend the Zarb-e-Azab Operation across the country so as to successfully wipe out terrorists and religious extremists who hinder peace from reigning in the region.
