Pennsylvania Nonbelievers recently joined hands with another non-profit organization called End Hunger NE to raise funds and feed the hungry at the forthcoming PA State Atheist/Humanist Conference. The annual conference, which took off in 2012, plans to organize a food-packing event at Harrisburg in 2015, wherein hungry individuals can be given some food.
Each meal costs as little as 25 cents, which means a tiny contribution can ensure an entire meal for one hungry person. As of now, the group has raised enough funds to make a little more than 5,000 meals for the hungry. However, upon noticing the generosity among humanists around the world, both Pennsylvania Nonbelievers and End Hunger NE have raised their goal to preparing 20,000 meals instead.
At PAStAHCon next year, which is expected to run from September 11 to 13, the organizers of this food drive will distribute all the meals to the poor with the help of local food banks. They believe this effort is one among the many that have helped build a positive and caring image for humanists, atheists, skeptics, agnostics and non-believers.
