A West City Bible Baptist Church pastor Logan Robertson has delivered a sermon calling for gay people to be shot. The video was posted on the YouTube channel and later removed due to hate speech. An independent Baptist preacher from Auckland, New Zealand, explained his views on homosexuality: “My view on homo marriage is that the Bible never mentions it, so I’m not against them getting married as long as a bullet goes through their head the moment they kiss… Because that's what it talks about - not homo marriage but homo death." “That’s what should happen. Now we’ve got Christians that would rather side with them — side with their cute little fag cousin or brother or whoever it is — than with Christians, than actually preach against it,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Robertson speaks about homosexuals with a lot of hatred. In 2014, he told a gay Christian author, Jim Marjoram, who wrote a book about his life as a gay Christian, “I pray that you will commit suicide.” He offered Marjoram a suggestion in an email sent to several church leaders in his local Auckland, New Zealand: “The bible says you are vile, strange (queer), reprobate, filth, sodomite, natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed… I pray that you will commit suicide, you filthy child molesting fag.” When a reporter (who also happened to be gay) asked him for clarification, Robertson said once again that the man should kill himself.
Marjoram said he had battled with depression and suicidal thoughts throughout his life so the comment stung. “On so many occasions I’d want to jump in front of a truck but my kids kept me going,” he said back then.
Many Christians have condemned this hateful rhetoric. When contacted by the Herald, Robertson said he did not deny his words were hate speech. “Of course it is. Does it sound like hate speech to you?” he said. “If the world thinks that’s hate speech then that’s fine.” Robertson isn’t alone in such claims. Just like Pastor Steven Anderson and Theodore Shoebat did before, Robertson reiterated that he wasn’t calling on anyone to kill gay people. He thinks that anyone could read that verse in the Bible.
