Steven Spielberg has aced the gratitude list for most receivers of the Academy Awards. The world-class director has been thanked as many as 42 times by celebrities who have delivered keynote speeches while receiving their Oscars followed by producer Harvey Weinstein who has been thanked 34 times. According to the research which revealed these figures, director James Cameron ranked third on the list with 28 thanks, followed by directors George Lucas and Peter Jackson in fourth and fifth places with 23 and 22 thanks respectively. However, God received only 19 thank yous, possibly because he has never directed, produced or acted in a film.
After God took up the sixth slot, screenwriter Fran Walsh was the first woman to be featured in the list, taking up only the seventh position. Producer Sheila Nevins was the second lady to be featured on the list and she took up the next slot. Legendary directors Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese tied at the ninth and tenth spots respectively along with producers Barrie Osborne and Saul Zaentz.
In the wake of the 87th Academy Awards, which was held on February 22, all 1,396 acceptance speeches currently archived on the academy’s website were taken into account to see which members from Hollywood’s crème de la crème felt grateful to God for winning their awards. Apart from the stunning numbers listed above, about 43 percent of all recipients thanked the academy and only 28 percent thanked their mothers and fathers.
