A new six-part television series titled “Finding Jesus,” which is set to premiere in March of this year, claims to blend science and archaeology to explore six religious relics that some say could reveal important information about Christ’s life.
“’Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact, Forgery’ will explore whether or not Christ left any physical traces behind, promising to offer fascinating new insights into the historical Jesus, utilizing the latest state-of-the-art scientific techniques and archaeological research,” reads a press release for the new TV series.
The series, classified as a docudrama, will take its viewers through explanations of artifacts and explore Biblical stories and characters that frame these relics. It promises to highlight all of the major events mentioned in the gospels, including Christ’s baptism and resurrection.
“Each episode of the six-part series investigates the value and authenticity of a historical object which could shed new light on Jesus: the Shroud of Turin, relics venerated as part of the True Cross, the gospel of Judas, relics believed to be of John the Baptist, the burial box of Jesus’ brother James and the gospel of Mary Magdalene,” the press release reads.
Reportedly, the first relic that the show will explore includes the shroud believed by some to have been wrapped around Christ after his death. With a lot of speculation surrounding the shroud that some associate with a mysterious man who is believed to have created it during the time of Christ’s resurrection, audiences are eagerly waiting to see what the docudrama has to say.
Premiering on March 1 at 9 pm, “Finding Jesus” will involve media personalities and experts who will be sharing their views on these matters. Reporter David Gibson is expected to release a companion book by the end of this month that will explore the contents of the docudrama in greater detail. In a description of the book, Gibson claims the relics give audiences the most direct evidence of the life and world of Christ.
“The book and attendant CNN series provide a dramatic way to retell ‘the greatest story ever told’ while introducing a broad audience to the history, the latest controversies, and newest forensic science involved in sorting out facts from the fiction of would-be forgers and deceivers,” a book description reads. “The book and the show draw on experts from all over the world. Beyond the faithful, the book will also appeal to the skeptical and to curious readers of history and archaeology, while it takes viewers of the primetime TV series deeper into the story.”
