Islamic State Tortures Muslim Youths for Eating During Ramadan

Islamic State is believed to have tortured two young boys for breaking their fast during Ramadan and eating during the day without any religious justification. Both victims were left hanging at the village center in Mayadeen, which is situated in Deir Ezzor province of Syria, to discourage others from repeating the same.

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is supposed to be holy by Muslims and they are expected to abstain from a number of things, including eating during the day.

The militants reportedly hung a placard around the boys’ necks that claimed that they had broken their fast.

“IS terrorists hanged the two boys in a square in central Mayadeen for eating during Ramadan,” an eyewitness told local media. “The victims remained hanged in the public square over the weekend. Nobody was allowed to approach their corpses.”

However, some other media reports suggested that the youths were hung by their wrists and not their necks.

“The children have been suspended by ropes from a pole since noon, and they were still there in the late evening. Apparently, they were caught eating,” clarified Rami Abdel Rahman, chief of Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, which earlier alleged that the boys had been hanged but later issued a correction.

If the reports are true, this is not the first time that the terrorist group, which has taken over vast territories in Iraq and Syria, has carried out such a brutal punishment in the name of Islamic Sharia law.
