Flyers calling for the death of Ahmadiya Muslims were recently discovered at a London mosque only days after Muslim Council of Britain issued a statement clarifying how Sunnis and Shias do not consider Ahmadis to be Muslims. According to the BBC, flyers stating Ahmadis should be killed if they refuse to convert to mainstream Islam were found at Stockwell Green Mosque.

The flyers, calling for the death of Ahmadiyas who disagree to renounce their faith and convert to Islam within a couple of days, were apparently authored by the former head of Khatme Nabuwwat; which happens to also list Stockwell Green Mosque as its overseas office. According to the BBC, the flyers were written in English by Yusuf Ludhianvi and found in piles atop a desk next to a shoe rack, where mosque-related texts are typically placed.

Documents retrieved from Charity Commission revealed at least four trustees from the charity manage the mosque as well, while two ‘owners’ of the mosque run centers affiliated with Khatme Nabuwwat elsewhere in the United Kingdom. When the BBC asked trustee Toaha Qureshi about the flyers, he said the only connection Khatme Nabuwwat and the mosque shared was that the former occasionally offered the latter guidance or literature on certain subjects.

While Metropolitan Police have not yet decided whether or not to investigate the matter, another trustee said he had never seen such flyers at the mosque and they might not mean anything if they were just left there with malicious intent.

However, the following day, there were reports suggesting similar flyers were being distributed in mosques, shopping malls and universities across London.

After the murder of Asad Shah in March this year, Muslim Council of Britain issued a statement clarifying its position on Ahmadis. After the organization started to receive flak for saying Muslims should not be forced to include Ahmadiyas within link Islam, a spokesperson for the minority religious group said the organization should have better timed its response considering an Ahmadi had only recently been killed for his faith.

Ahmadis are of the opinion that a second prophet, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, succeeded Muhammad; and that is exactly why Sunnis and Shias consider them to be apostates. For example, the constitution of Pakistan even bans Ahmadis from identifying as Muslims.
