The Truman Show is a satirical social science fiction film that follows the life of Truman Burbank, portrayed by Jim Carey, who is at first does not know that he is living in a constructed reality television show, broadcast round the clock to billions of viewers across the world. When he becomes suspicious about his perceived reality, he sets out the find out the truth about his life.
The show’s executive producer Christof is adamant about capturing Truman’s real emotion and behavior when put in certain situations. He thus builds Truman a house, which is actually a set called Seahaven and hires actors to act as his friends and family. In his attempt to control every aspect of Truman’s life and keep him from finding out the truth, Christof finds different ways to dissuade his sense of exploration. Despite the producer’s control, Truman acts in unexpected ways, for instance by falling in love with Sylvia, an extra on the set and not with Meryl, with whom Christof intended Truman to fall in love and marry.
When Sylvia is removed from the set, she becomes part of a “Free Truman” campaign to set him free from the show. During the 30th year of the show, Truman begins to notice certain oddities in his almost-perfect world that make him curious about his life. He then tries to leave Seahaven but fails to do so due to his own inabilities or other orchestrated problems. Will Truman succeed in finding freedom? Watch this entertaining film to find out!
