Shutting the doors to Muslims overtly or by underhanded means simply helps divide the world more sharply into the “Dar al-Harb” (House of War) and “Dar al-Islam” and validates the Islamic worldview.

In the realm of controlling language to control people, none has left a mark like Islam – while it upholds Arabic as the one holy language that Allah chose to provide his final revelation, it also uses the Arabic script and vocabulary to colonize and destroy local languages, dividing peoples and histories while it’s at it.

“Leaving religion” may be seen as a “cruel joke” of a solution to the victims of the Rakhine State civil war. However, it must be put on the table, because it is the only way out of a conflict that could outlast this century. Destroying religion may be the only hope for a people who have perhaps not seen the color of clean water, let alone any evidence that what they are willing to die and kill for exists at all.

As the late, great Christopher Hitchens put it, “Religion Poisons Everything.” The Earth shrinks in the eyes of the faithful – you may be relative newcomers like the Lhotshampa or residents older than the usurpers, like the Hindus of Pakistan or Parsis of Iran, or its just that you had a new idea, like the Baha'is or Ahmadis. Only a secular republic will recognize every single inhabitant as its own.
